MRI Perineum
Understanding MRI Perineum
What is MRI Perineum?
MRI of the Perineum provides images of the pelvic floor muscles using the magnetic resonance imaging technique. The perineum is the area between vaginal opening and anus in females; space between the scrotum and anus in males. The test helps determine any underlying health conditions, injury, congenital disabilities or any problem related to reproductive organs.
The test is done if the person is experiencing swelling and pain in the pelvic region, difficulty in urinating and complains of unusual lumps or lesions in the area.
The anatomy of the perineum region is complicated, so MRI helps in easy and precise diagnosis. The MRI scan helps to get better quality images of the pelvic region. The doctor should be informed of prior health conditions like anxiety, allergies that can interfere with the test procedure.
