Toxoplasma Antibodies Panel, IgG & IgM
Understanding Toxoplasma Antibodies Panel, IgG & IgM
What is Toxoplasma Antibodies Panel, IgG & IgM?
Toxoplasma Antibodies Panel IgG & IgM detects IgG and IgM antibodies produced in response to an old or recent toxoplasmosis infection, caused by a parasite Toxoplasma gondii. A measurable amount of IgM antibodies is produced in the blood 1 to 2 weeks after getting infected which are later replaced by IgG antibodies that persist throughout life. Toxoplasmosis has flu-like symptoms including fever, nausea, headache, muscle pain, and sore throat. Eating raw or undercooked meat from an infected animal, handling an infected cat or its feces, and contaminated soil can cause this infection. Pregnant women, unborn babies, and immunocompromised patients may be at greater risk of getting infected. Maintaining proper hygiene, eating hygienically cooked food, and drinking water from a clean source are some ways to prevent infection.
