X - Ray Left Ankle AP & LAT View
Understanding X - Ray Left Ankle AP & LAT View
What is X - Ray Left Ankle AP & LAT View?
X-Ray Left Ankle AP & LAT is a painless and safe imaging technique used to visualize the left ankle bones like tibia and fibula (the lower leg bones). X-ray tests use a small amount of ionizing radiation to produce an image of the bones and soft tissues. Dense structures such as bones appear white, while soft tissues appear dark in color. This test is used to diagnose fractures and dislocations of bones and joints in the ankle region. Other abnormalities like infections and inflammation of joints (arthritis) can also be analyzed using X-rays.
The X-ray test may last for about 20 minutes, though exposure time to X-rays would usually be only a second. X-rays are not usually recommended for pregnant women because of the risk to the developing fetus.
What is X - Ray Left Ankle AP & LAT View used for?
- To diagnose any broken/fractured bones of the ankle joint and to monitor the healing of the broken bone, after it has been set.
- To diagnose any suspected infection, osteoporosis, deformities or abnormal growth of the bones and arthritis (inflammation of the joints).
