What is X - Ray Styloid Processes AP View?
An X-ray of the styloid process AP view is a safe and painless test to visualise a pointed piece of bone originating from the skull below the ear using small amount of radiation. The image is recorded on a special x ray film. The X-ray image is black and white. Dense structures such as the bones, appear white and softer body tissues, such as the skin and muscles appear darker. The actual exposure time to radiation is usually less than a second, although the overall test may take 15-20 minutes.

- To detect any malformations, deformities, abnormal growth or broken/fractured styloid process
- To diagnose elongated styloid processes (Eagle’s syndrome)
- To determine the calcification (extra calcium deposition) of the stylohyoid ligament which interferes the neighbouring region resulting in pain and inflammation
