- The BD Insulin Syringe is a single-use, sterile, non-toxic, plastic syringe
- It comes with TBL technology. The thin wall allows better drug flow, the tri-bevel tip allows easy penetration into skin, micro-bonded lubrication allows smooth penetration
- The BD Insulin syringes are non-allergic, non-toxic, non-pyrogenic syringes
- It comes with a latex-free rubber stopper with a flat plunger tip (no dead space) for correct insulin dosing
- The scale marking of the barrel is designed for insulin concentrations of 40U/ml (U-40). Because of the different insulin concentrations, the syringes are colour-coded with red colour for 40U/ml insulin versus the orange colour for the much-more commonly used 100U/ml Insulin in accordance with ISO 8537
Directions For Uses:
- To expose the plunger, twist the white cap to break the seal, then pull off. To expose the needle, twist the red cap to break the seal, then pull straight off, being careful not to bend the needle
- To measure the correct dose, align the top edge of the ThinLine plunger tip with your dosage mark on the syringe scale
- Use only once. To prevent misuse after injection, destroy the syringe needle and put it in a container for safe disposal
Safety Information:
- All syringes, with the exception of self-contained, are guaranteed sterile and non-pyrogenic
- Only the fluid path of a self-contained syringe is guaranteed sterile. The Product is sterilized with Cobalt 60 Radiation
- The product is packaged in a blister (unit blister or 5-syringes strip blister) pack or designed as a self-contained syringe. Syringes which are packed in blister pack are assembled without a polyethylene plunger cap
Quick Tips:
- The injection site should be clean, as should one’s hands
- 4 mm pen needles and 6 mm syringe needles are recommended for all adults, children and adolescents. Children <6 years of age, and very thin adults may inject perpendicularly into raised skin folds
- Recommended sites are the abdomen, upper thighs, upper arms and upper buttock
- Persons using insulin should self-inspect their injection sites and screen for Lipohypertropy (Self IE)
- Injection sites should be inspected and palpated by diabetes care professionals at least once a year, and more frequently if LH is detected
- Needles should not be reused. Insulin pens, cartridges and vials should not be shared
- Safe disposal of insulin needles and ancillaries should be ensured
