The cuff goes around your upper arm, and you squeeze a rubber bulb to inflate it by hand. Aneroid monitors often cost less than digital monitors. Directions for Use:

• Sit in a comfortable chair with your back supported for at least five minutes

• Place the cuff on your bare upper arm, one inch above the bend of your elbow. The cuff should be snug but not too tight. The bottom of the cuff should be directly above the bend of your elbow

• Pump air into the cuff around your arm to tighten it

• Slowly release air from the cuff while using a stethoscope to hear the pulse in your arm's brachial artery

• Note the reading when you first hear a heartbeat. Note when you no longer hear the beating sounds

• Record your numbers either by writing the information down or by entering the information into an electronic personal health record

Safety Information:

• Empty your bladder before taking a reading

• The cuff should be smooth and snug, with enough room for you to slip one fingertip under the cuff
