Information about Bos Medicare Surgical Finger Tip Pulse Oximeter

Bos Medicare Surgical Finger Tip Pulse Oximeter
A pulse oximeter is a device that is usually placed on a fingertip. It uses light beams to estimate the oxygen saturation of the blood and the pulse rate. Oxygen saturation gives information about the amount of oxygen carried in the blood. A pulse oximeter is a non-invasive device that measures the amount of oxygen in your blood. It uses light beams to estimate the oxygen saturation of your blood and your pulse rate. A doctor may recommend a pulse oximeter if you have a lung or heart condition or shortness of breath. It may also be used during or after surgery, to see how well lung medicines are working, or to check a person's ability to handle increased activity levels.

Uses:
  • Ideal for monitoring oxygen saturation and pulse rate, especially recommended for individuals with lung or heart conditions, during or after surgery, and for assessing activity tolerance

Product Specifications and Features:
  • Monitoring oxygen levels: Pulse oximeters can monitor oxygen levels over time. They can also detect drops in oxygen saturation, which can alert people to the need for medical intervention
  • Assessing the need for supplemental oxygen: Pulse oximeters can assess the need for supplemental oxygen. They can also determine the effectiveness of breathing interventions, such as oxygen therapy and ventilators
  • Assessing the health of people with blood oxygen level conditions: Pulse oximeters can monitor the health of people with conditions that affect blood oxygen levels
  • Assessing the effectiveness of new lung medications: Pulse oximeters can assess how well a new lung medication is working
  • Assessing the safety of individuals during physical activity: Pulse oximeters can assess the safety of individuals during physical activity or exercise, especially for people with cardiovascular or respiratory problems
  • Pulse oximeters are quick, painless, and inexpensive tests that can be done in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They can be used to diagnose symptoms like shortness of breath, track blood oxygen levels during surgery, and test oxygen levels when using supplemental oxygen
  • According to the American Lung Association, a normal oxygen level is between 95 and 97%. If your oxygen level is below 90%, you should go to the emergency room
  • This is for informational purposes only. This information does not constitute medical advice or diagnosis

Directions For Use:
  • Prepare your hand
  • Warm your hand
  • Remove any nail polish or artificial nails
  • Rest your hand for at least five minutes
  • Hold your hand below the level of your heart
  • Place the oximeter
  • Place the oximeter on the index or middle fingertip of either hand
  • You can also place it on your earlobe or toe
  • Keep still
  • Sit still and don't move the part of your body where the oximeter is located for at least a minute
  • If the reading keeps changing, keep the oximeter in place for longer

Safety Information:
  • Read the label carefully before use
  • Be aware that multiple factors can affect the accuracy of a pulse oximeter reading, such as poor circulation, skin pigmentation, skin thickness, skin temperature, current tobacco use, and use of fingernail polish
  • Inaccurate readings: If the probe falls off the earlobe, toe, or finger, the reading may be incorrect. The probe may also produce an incorrect reading if:
  • It is attached to the ear (or vice versa)
  • It is attached to a baby or a child (or vice versa)
  • The fingers are not clean
  • The skin is dark, thick, or has poor circulation
  • The skin temperature is cool
  • The user is wearing dark fingernail polish, long, artificial nails, or has current tobacco use
  • Skin irritation: The adhesive on the probe may cause skin irritation
  • Nail polish: Nail polish may cause up to 6% underestimation of saturation. It is recommended that probes should be mounted sideways on fingers with nail polish or long nails
  • The FDA requires that prescription oximeters undergo clinical testing to confirm their accuracy
