A kidney tray is a shallow, kidney-shaped basin used in surgical procedures. It can be used to carry bandages, dressing, small instruments, soiled dressing, and other medical waste. The shape of the tray allows it to be held close to the individual's body.

Uses:
It can be used to hold and organize surgical instruments, gauze, and other materials. After each use, clean and sterilize the tray as per hospital or clinic protocols.

• Shape: The shape of the tray should conform to Fig. 1 of the World Trade Organization's specifications. The contour should be such that trays of the same size when nested together do not become jammed. The contour of the sides should bulge outside

• Sterilization: Kidney trays can be sterilised by autoclave, ethylene oxide, or hydrogen plasma. They can also be sterilized manually with a soft brush or clean soft cloth. Never use metal brushes or steel wool

• Features: Some trays have a tall lip to guard against spills and secure the contents of the tray. Others have a special lip to keep supplies, liquids, or instruments safe

Directions For Use:

• Kidney trays should not rock

• When placed on a level surface, kidney trays should not rock

• Trays should be free of sharp edges

• Stainless steel trays should be free from sharp or open edges, distortion, dents, wrinkles, wavy surfaces, burrs, scratches, and pittings

• Trays should be cleaned with a soft cloth

• To sterilize a kidney tray, use only a soft brush or a clean soft cloth. Do not use metal brushes or steel wool

• Trays can be sterilised

• Kidney trays can be sterilised by autoclave, ethylene oxide, or hydrogen plasma

• Trays can be cleaned in boiling water

• Plastic kidney trays can be cleaned in boiling water or autoclaved and sterilized
