1. Influenza vaccine
2. Shingles vaccine
Every year, about one million new cases of Shingles are diagnosed each year in India. It's a painful condition (often described by feelings of stabbing, burning and itching) which lasts for over 2-4 weeks. It is caused by reactivation of herpes zoster (chicken pox) virus accumulated on the nerve endings. Patients above 50 are more likely to develop Shingles due to weakening immunity.
Being vaccinated against Shingles is the most effective way to prevent the onset of this painful disease.
3. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine
Cervical cancer claims over 70 thousand lives each year, and between 1-1.5 lakh new cases are detected every year. It is primarily caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV). It's the second-most common cancer in women.
The HPV Vaccine not only vaccine shields against cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancer in women, but it also helps protect against anal cancer and genital warts in both men and women.
4. Pneumococcal Vaccine
Safeguards against a range of illnesses caused by a notorious bacteria called pneumococcus. It protects against conditions including pneumonia, inflammation of protective linings of the brain (meningitis), bacteria in blood-stream (bacteremia) and infection in the middle ear(otitis media).
5. Hepatitis B Vaccines
The Hepatitis B vaccine prevents a serious liver infection caused by the Hepatitis B virus. The infection can cause various symptoms such as fever, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and loss of appetite. If severe, it can also lead to liver scarring and liver failure. While anyone can contract this infection, healthcare workers, people having multiple sex partners, people with chronic liver disease, kidney disease, or diabetes over the age of 60 are at a higher risk of catching it.
