Abicon Oral Suspension

Your child’s medicine at a glance

Abicon Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that is effective against a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections. In children, it is used to treat infections of the urinary and gastrointestinal tract.

Give Abicon Oral Suspension to your child orally, with food, preferably at a fixed time. Giving it with food helps prevent the risk of developing a stomach upset. Always give the dose as prescribed by the doctor since that depends on the severity and type of infection, body weight, and age of your child. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose but never double up the dose if it is time for the next dose.

Some children may develop minor and temporary side effects after taking Abicon Oral Suspension. These include nausea, vomiting, metallic taste, headache, loss of appetite, abdominal cramps, red-brown urine, and mild skin rash. These side effects usually go away once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case they persist for long or start bothering your child, you must consult your child’s doctor without any delay.

Your child’s doctor must be aware if your child has ever had any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, blood disorder, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This will guide the doctor in planning your child’s overall treatment.

Uses of Abicon Oral Suspension in children

Benefits of Abicon Oral Suspension for your child

In Treatment of Bacterial infections

Abicon Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections. These infections may include genital tract infections, urinary tract infections, and gastrointestinal infections, including diarrhea, dysentery, peritonitis, and appendicitis.

This medicine helps clear up the infection by stopping the bacteria from multiplying and growing. In most cases, the infection starts showing improvement within 3 to 5 days of regular dosing. However, you must still finish the full course of the medicine. Stopping it abruptly may worsen your child’s condition or cause infection recurrence.

In Treatment of Parasitic infections

Abicon Oral Suspension is also used to treat parasitic infections such as amoebic dysentery, amoebic liver abscess, trichomoniasis, and giardiasis. It works by stopping the growth of parasites causing the infection. As a result of this, your child’s infection is treated.

Side effects of Abicon Oral Suspension in children

Abicon Oral Suspension does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. FAQs

My child is having a genetic deficiency of the G6PD enzyme. Is it safe to give Abicon Oral Suspension?

It is advised that you get your child’s G6PD deficiency evaluated before starting the course of treatment. Avoid giving Abicon Oral Suspension as deficiency of G6PD enzymes can lead to breaking of blood cells resulting in severe anemia.

What if I give excess Abicon Oral Suspension by mistake?

An extra dose of Abicon Oral Suspension is unlikely to cause any harm. But, you must still be vigilant because overdose increases the risk of unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Rush to your child’s doctor on an immediate basis if you notice any of these symptoms. If you think you have given too much Abicon Oral Suspension to your child, immediately speak to a doctor.

What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Abicon Oral Suspension for the prescribed duration?

Speak to your child’s doctor if your child does not show any improvement even after completing the dose. It could mean that the medicine is not able to act against the infection-causing microorganism. Your child’s doctor may change Abicon Oral Suspension and prescribe some other antibiotic that is known to have a stronger impact on the infection-causing microorganism.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Abicon Oral Suspension?

Abicon Oral Suspension can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Abicon Oral Suspension. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Abicon Oral Suspension?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

What should I tell the doctor before giving Abicon Oral Suspension to my child?

Inform the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there is a possibility that Abicon Oral Suspension may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.

What if I don't get better after using Abicon Oral Suspension?

Inform your doctor if you don't feel better after finishing the full course of treatment. Also, inform him if your symptoms are getting worse while using this medicine.

Can I stop taking Abicon Oral Suspension when I feel better?

No, do not stop taking Abicon Oral Suspension and complete the full course of treatment even if you are feeling better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured.

What if I miss my dose?

Take Abicon Oral Suspension as soon as you remember it. However, do not take it if it's almost time for your next dose. Also, do not take an extra dose to make up for your missed dose.
