Glyciphage Tablet is a medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps control blood sugar levels and thus prevents serious complications of diabetes. It is also used to treat a menstruation-related disorder known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women.
Glyciphage Tablet is best taken with food to avoid nausea and abdominal pain. You should take it regularly, at the same time each day, to get the most benefit. You should not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor recommends it. Your lifestyle plays a big part in controlling diabetes. Therefore, it is important to stay on the diet and exercise program recommended by your doctor while taking this medicine.
The most common side effects of this medicine include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, headache, and loss of appetite. Some people may develop hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when this medicine is taken along with other antidiabetic medicines or alcohol or upon skipping a meal. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking it.
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any kidney, liver, or heart problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. Your doctor will check your kidney function before starting treatment with it. Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking it, as this may increase the risk of developing some side effects.
Lowering blood glucose levels is an essential part of managing diabetes. If you can control the level, you will reduce the risk of getting any of the serious complications of diabetes, such as kidney damage, eye damage, nerve problems, and loss of limbs. Taking Glyciphage Tablet regularly, along with proper diet and exercise, will help you live a normal, healthy life.

FAQs
What does Glyciphage Tablet do exactly?
Glyciphage Tablet works in PCOS by making the body more sensitive to insulin. In PCOS, the body often doesn’t respond well to insulin, leading to high insulin levels. This can cause the ovaries to produce excess male hormones, leading to irregular periods, acne, and unwanted hair growth. Glyciphage Tablet lowers insulin levels, helping to balance hormones, regulate periods, and reduce these symptoms.

For type 2 diabetes, Glyciphage Tablet helps control blood sugar levels in three ways: it reduces the amount of sugar the liver makes, helps the body use insulin more effectively, and lowers sugar absorption from food. This helps prevent blood sugar spikes and manage diabetes better.
What are the benefits of taking Glyciphage Tablet?
Glyciphage Tablet benefits polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) by improving how the body responds to insulin, lowering insulin levels, and reducing excess male hormone production. This helps restore hormonal balance, regulate menstrual cycles, and relieve symptoms like acne and excess hair growth. It also supports weight management and lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes. Additionally, Glyciphage Tablet controls blood sugar by enhancing the body's insulin response, reducing sugar production in the liver, and limiting sugar absorption from the intestines. Unlike some other antidiabetic medicines, it rarely causes low blood sugar when taken alone.
Does Glyciphage Tablet cause weight loss?
Yes, Glyciphage Tablet has been shown to cause mild weight loss in some people. It may also cause a modest loss in weight in those overweight and obese individuals who are at risk for diabetes. In addition, patients who are sensitive or resistant to insulin may also show weight loss. But, do not start taking this medicine for weight loss on your own. Consult your doctor for the same.
Can Glyciphage Tablet make you sleepy?
Glyciphage Tablet usually does not cause sleepiness and is well tolerated. However, the use of Glyciphage Tablet may rarely cause sleep disorders and insomnia. Sleepiness may be due to a very serious side effect called lactic acidosis, which particularly occurs if your kidneys are not working properly. Contact your doctor if you feel sleepy or tired while taking Glyciphage Tablet.
How to take Glyciphage Tablet?
Take Glyciphage Tablet with or after a meal. Do not crush or chew the Glyciphage Tablet, and swallow it with a glass of water. If your doctor has prescribed one tablet a day, prefer taking it in the morning with breakfast. If you have been prescribed two tablets a day, then take one in the morning and the other in the evening with dinner. In the case of three doses a day, apart from morning and evening, you can take it with lunch. Taking Glyciphage Tablet with meals will reduce digestive problems like indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomachache, and loss of appetite.
