Product introduction

Nitroglex Injection is used to treat and prevent heart-related chest pain (angina) and hypertension (high blood pressure) during surgery. This medicine works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily to the heart. It has a very short-lived effect.

Nitroglex Injection is given as an injection under the supervision of a doctor with careful blood pressure monitoring. This is given as a continuous infusion into a vein and should not be stopped abruptly. It should not be mixed with any other medication of any kind.

The most common side effect of Nitroglex Injection is a headache which may be severe. This can sometimes be helped by drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding alcohol. You may also experience lightheadedness, which could increase your risk of having a fall. There are other, rarer side effects, some of them serious. Ask your doctor and read the leaflet which comes with the medicine to make sure you are keeping safe.

Do not use Nitroglex Injection if you are taking medicines to treat high blood pressure in your lungs (pulmonary hypertension), or erectile dysfunction; or if you have anemia or glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye). Always tell your doctor what other health conditions you have and what other medicines you are taking. It is best not to drink alcohol with this medicine as it increases some of the side effects. If you are affected by dizziness, avoid driving. If you are pregnant, thinking about becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor before taking this medicine.

Benefits of Nitroglex Injection

In Treatment of Angina (heart-related chest pain)

Nitroglex Injection helps in prevention as well as treatment of angina. Angina is a chest pain that is usually caused by narrowing of the blood vessels which supply your heart. This means your heart does not get enough oxygen. Nitroglex Injection works quickly to relax the muscles and blood vessels in your heart so more blood (and oxygen) gets to your heart. This reduces the pain and discomfort that angina causes.
You should take this medicine at the first sign of chest pain. If the first tablet does not work, you can take a second tablet after 5 minutes. However, if your chest pain does not go away after 15 minutes, you should get urgent medical attention. This could be a sign of a heart attack. Nitroglex Injection also helps prevent chest pain if taken before exercising or doing other strenuous activities.

In Treatment of Hypertension (high blood pressure)

Nitroglex Injection is used to treat hypertension in hypertensive emergencies. It rapidly dilates (widens) the blood vessels. This rapid vasodilation helps reduce blood pressure levels, relieving the strain on the heart and improving blood flow to vital organs. It is typically used in critical situations where immediate blood pressure reduction is necessary, such as severe high blood pressure that can lead to organ damage or other life-threatening complications.

Side effects of Nitroglex Injection

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Common side effects of Nitroglex

  • Blurred vision
  • Decreased blood pressure
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Increased heart rate
  • Lightheadedness
  • Paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation)

How to use Nitroglex Injection

Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine. Kindly do not self administer.

How Nitroglex Injection works

Nitroglex Injection is a nitrate. It works by improving blood supply to heart and relaxing the blood vessels which decreases the oxygen demand of the heart and reduces its workload, thereby preventing/treating attacks of angina (chest pain). Relaxation of blood vessels lowers blood pressure.

FAQs

Q. Does the effect of Nitroglex Injection wear off after sometime?

Yes, excessive use of Nitroglex Injection may cause tolerance which means that Nitroglex Injection may lose its effectiveness on you. Therefore, doctors usually prescribe the smallest dose required for effective relief of acute angina attacks. Also, it is usually prescribed in morning and afternoon doses to give nitrate-free interval. Take it strictly as per the dosing interval prescribed by your doctor to prevent tolerance and maintain the effectiveness of Nitroglex Injection.

Q. What does too much Nitroglex Injection do?

Excess Nitroglex Injection may result in low blood pressure, sweating, nausea, vomiting, headache, weak and fast pulse. It may also cause weakness, lightheadedness on standing and the patient might even faint. The patient will require emergency medical treatment in such a case.

Q. Does Nitroglex Injection stop heart attacks?

Nitroglex Injection is prescribed to prevent attacks of heart-related chest pain (angina) in patients with coronary artery disease. In this disease, the blood vessels (coronary arteries) which supply blood to the heart become narrow because of which the heart has to work harder to get enough oxygen. Nitroglex Injection prevents angina by relaxing the blood vessels so that the heart does not have to work very hard. Also, relaxation of coronary arteries increases the oxygen supply to the heart.
