Allergy - Vegetables Panel, ImmunoCAP
Understanding Allergy - Vegetables Panel, ImmunoCAP
What is Allergy - Vegetables Panel, ImmunoCAP?
An Allergy - Vegetables Panel, ImmunoCAP is a set of blood tests that identifies potential allergic reactions to some common vegetables and yeast. This panel specifically tests for the presence of immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies which is produced when there is an allergic reaction in your body. Along with this, the Total IgE level is also determined. These antibodies can cause symptoms that may be mild, moderate, or severe, including rashes, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing, or in serious cases, anaphylaxis. By finding out which vegetables trigger allergic reactions, this test helps to manage dietary habits and overall health more effectively. No fasting is required for this panel. You can eat and drink normally as per your routine. However, clinical history, a record of information about an individual's health is needed at the time of sample collection.

Immunoglobulins are antibodies (proteins) produced by plasma cells (specific immune cells) when the body recognizes bacteria, viruses, other microorganisms, or any other unknown substances as harmful foreign antigens (allergy-causing substances or allergens) to the immune system. There are five types of immunoglobulins: IgA, IgG, IgM, IgD, and IgE.
Unlike other antibodies, IgE is primarily associated with immune responses to allergenic substances, such as plant pollen, latex, pet dander, mold, eggs, peanuts, bee venom, and strawberries. Typically, IgE is present in tiny amounts in the blood. When the immune system encounters an allergen, it triggers the production of IgE antibodies. The Total IgE test measures the concentration of these IgE antibodies in the blood, providing insights into the presence and severity of allergies.

Yeast
The urine yeast test measures the presence of yeast cells in the urine sample. The presence of yeast cells can indicate an infection or an imbalance in the urinary tract's natural microbial environment. Yeast is a type of fungus that naturally resides in small amounts on the skin, in the mouth, and in the intestines. However, when it overgrows, it can cause infections, such as yeast infections in the urinary tract which require medical attention. Therefore this test is crucial for identifying fungal infections, particularly those caused by Candida species, and plays a vital role in guiding appropriate treatment strategies.
