Drug of Abuse Panel-12
Understanding Drug of Abuse Panel-12
What is Drug of Abuse Panel-12?
Drug of Abuse Panel-12 detects the presence or absence of 12 commonly abused medicines like opiates, morphine, amphetamine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), barbiturates, methadone, phencyclidine (PCP), benzodiazepine, marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, and tricyclic antidepressants (TCA). This test looks for the presence of small molecules (metabolites) released during the breakdown of any of these ingested medicines. This test confirms the recent use of an abused medicine and helps diagnose, treat, and monitor addiction. Also, it is done when you are suspected of misusing prescriptions or abusing banned medicines. Private employers or government agencies conduct this test as an employment procedure. This test is essential as clinical examination, patient self-reporting, or any reporting document may underestimate the actual frequency of substance use.
