Pan-Bacterial PCR
Understanding Pan-Bacterial PCR
What is Pan-Bacterial PCR?
Pan-Bacterial PCR test is for the rapid qualitative detection of all medically important bacteria in the blood sample. This is a Real-time PCR-based test. This RT-PCR test can detect the presence of bacteria in sterile site samples like blood/plasma/serum to aid in reaching a diagnosis and enable starting antibiotic therapy. Test results mention if bacterial species are detected or not detected in the sample. This test does not provide the name of the bacterial species detected in the sample. In rare conditions, the results could also be inconclusive. This test can help your doctor determine if the patient has a bacterial infection and plan the treatment accordingly. The ubiquitous presence of a 16S ribosomal RNA gene in bacteria offers the possibility of detecting a wide range of bacteria in a single PCR.
