Pancreatic Elastase
Understanding Pancreatic Elastase
What is Pancreatic Elastase?
(test_name} test measures the amount of elastase in your stools. Elastase is one of the few digestive enzymes or juices produced by the pancreas to help digest food. This test is used to check for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) when a person has stomach pain and other digestive symptoms that don't have a known cause. This test is better at finding severe EPI than mild or moderate cases. Pancreatic Elastase is also used to monitor how well the pancreas is working in people who have cystic fibrosis, diabetes, or chronic pancreatitis. Your doctor may advise this test if you experience signs and symptoms of EPI such as greasy, unusually foul-smelling stools (poops), abdominal pain, bloating and gas formation, weight loss, malabsorption, malnutrition, delayed growth, and trouble gaining weight in children.
Please note: This is an outsourced test. The sample for this test is collected by TATA 1MG and processed at a NABL accredited partnered lab.
