What is Ultrasound Thyroid?
Ultrasound is a method of obtaining images from inside the human body through the use of high frequency sound waves. The reflected sound wave echoes are recorded and displayed as a real-time visual image. No radiation is involved in ultrasound imaging. USG-Thyroid refers to the specialized use of sound waves to visualize the thyroid gland within the neck. It is used to detect lumps, cysts, nodules within the thyroid gland. It also helps in evaluating the function of thyroid gland. It is usually ordered after an abnormal thyroid function test.
