What is X - Ray Zygomatic Arch - Both?
An X-ray of the zygomatic arch is a safe and painless test to visualise the extension of the cheek bone using small amount of radiation. The zygomatic arch is made up of two zygomatic bone, the temporal bone and the soft tissues (skin and muscles) surrounding it. The image is recorded on a special X-ray film. The X-ray image is black and white. Dense structures such as the bones, appear white and softer body tissues, such as the skin and muscles appear darker. The actual exposure time to radiation is usually less than a second, although the overall test may take 15-20 minutes.
What is X - Ray Zygomatic Arch - Both used for?
- To detect any malformations, deformities, abnormal growth or broken/fractured cheekbone
- To find out presence of zygomatic arch during childbirth, where the child is unable to open the mouth at birth (congenital mandibular-zygomatic arch synostosis)
- To find out the congenital bony fusion of the maxilla and mandible
- To diagnose presence of tumor/abnormal growth in your zygomatic arch
- To determine any dislocation in your zygomatic arch joint, congenital abnormalities
