Benzocaine + Metronidazole is a combination of two medicines: Benzocaine + Metronidazole1 and Benzocaine + Metronidazole2 which treat mouth sores (ulcers). Benzocaine + Metronidazole1 is a local anesthetic. It works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to brain which decreases pain sensation in the mouth. Benzocaine + Metronidazole2 is an antibiotic which kills the bacteria and other microorganisms that cause gum disease, ulcers and other mouth infections by damaging bacterial DNA.
