No, Welhart 50mg Capsule is not a beta blocker. It is a sodium channel blocker and belongs to antiarrhythmic class of medicine. It blocks the fast sodium channels in heart, and therefore, helps in treating ventricular arrhythmia (abnormal electrical activity). This medicine blocks certain electrical signals in the heart and stabilizes the heart rhythm.
Q. Does Welhart 50mg Capsule lower heart rate?
Welhart 50mg Capsule may lower your heart rate. In addition to this, it may also cause palpitations, irregular heart beats, decrease in blood pressure and atrial fibrillation (abnormal heart rhythm). Therefore, you will probably be hospitalized when you begin your treatment with Welhart 50mg Capsule. Your doctor will monitor you carefully during this time and for as long as you continue to take Welhart 50mg Capsule.
Q. Is Welhart 50mg Capsule bad for liver?
Yes, Welhart 50mg Capsule may cause liver damage. This may occur within a few weeks of starting Welhart 50mg Capsule and is more likely to occur in patients with heart failure. Patients who have impaired liver function are monitored carefully. Also, the half life of Welhart 50mg Capsule is prolonged in patients having liver problems and it stays for more time in body. Tell your doctor if you notice symptoms such as fatigue, dark or “tea-colored” urine, loss of appetite for several days or longer, or pain and tenderness on the right side of the abdomen. Look out if your skin or the white part of your eyes turn yellow (jaundice) and consult your doctor immediately.
Q. How do I stop taking Welhart 50mg Capsule?
Stopping this medicine suddenly may cause arrhythmias to return which will be harmful for you. Therefore, do not attempt to stop this medicine without consulting your doctor. It is recommended to stop this medicine gradually over 1-2 weeks. The duration of treatment varies from person to person and though no precise guide is available, withdrawal of Welhart 50mg Capsule should be attempted after a suitable arrhythmia-free period.
Q. Do you take Welhart 50mg Capsule with food?
Yes, Welhart 50mg Capsule should be taken with food or antacids to prevent stomach upset. Welhart 50mg Capsule is usually prescribed to be taken thrice daily at an interval of every 8 hours. Some people may be advised to take it twice daily, every 12 hours, once their arrhythmias are controlled. You should take it at the same time everyday as this makes it easier for you to remember taking it. Also, drink sufficient quantity of water while sitting in an upright position. Check with your doctor if you are not sure.
