How Zolotim Products work
Dorzolamide + Timolol is a combination of two medicines: Dorzolamide + Timolol1 and Dorzolamide + Timolol2. Dorzolamide + Timolol1 is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and Dorzolamide + Timolol2 is a beta blocker. They work by decreasing the production of aqueous humour (fluid in the eye), thereby lowering the increased eye pressure.
Patient Concerns about Zolotim Products
Frequently asked questions about Zolotim Products
Frequently asked questions about Zolotim Products
Q. What is Zolotim Eye Drops used for?
Zolotim Eye Drops is a prescription eye medicine used to lower high pressure inside the eye (used in open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension), when a single beta-blocker eye drop is not enough.
Q. Who must not use Zolotim Eye Drops?
Individuals should not use Zolotim Eye Drops if they have or have had asthma, severe COPD, sinus bradycardia, second/third-degree AV block, overt heart failure, cardiogenic shock, or if they are allergic to any component of the medicine.
Q. I have asthma. Is Zolotim Eye Drops safe for me?
No, Zolotim Eye Drops contains a beta-blocker (timolol) that can be absorbed and trigger severe bronchospasm in people with asthma or severe lung disease. This medicine should not be used in bronchial asthma or in those with a history of bronchial asthma. If you have breathing problems, tell your doctor.
Q. I have a slow heartbeat or heart failure. Can I use Zolotim Eye Drops?
If you have a slow heart rate (sinus bradycardia), certain heart blocks, or heart failure, Zolotim Eye Drops is not suitable. It can worsen cardiac function and is restricted in those conditions. Discuss alternatives with your eye doctor or cardiologist.
Q. What if the Zolotim Eye Drops tip touches my eye or the solution gets dirty? Is that dangerous?
Yes, if the Zolotim Eye Drops tip or solution becomes contaminated, there is a risk of bacterial keratitis (a serious eye infection) that can damage vision. Don’t touch the dropper tip to your eye, keep the bottle clean, and stop use/see your doctor if you suspect contamination or develop signs of eye infection.
Q. If I have surgery coming up, is there anything to tell my surgeon/anesthetist about using Zolotim Eye Drops?
Yes, the beta-blocker (timolol) present in Zolotim Eye Drops can impair certain heart reflexes and may affect responses during general anesthesia (risk of prolonged low blood pressure or difficulty restarting the heartbeat). Tell your surgeon/anesthetist that you use Zolotim Eye Drops, as they may advise management for surgery.
