How Medilop Tablet works

Medilop Tablet is a combination of three medicines: Metronidazole, Dicyclomine and Loperamide which treat diarrhea. Metronidazole is an antibiotic which works by stopping the growth of bacteria and other diarrhea-causing microorganisms. Dicyclomine is an anticholinergic which relaxes the muscles in the stomach and gut (intestine). It stops sudden muscle contractions (spasms). By doing this, it relieves cramps, pain, bloating, and discomfort. Loperamide is an opioid agonist which works by decreasing contraction of the intestines making the stools more solid and less frequent.

  • You have been prescribed Medilop Tablet for the treatment of diarrhea.
  • Diarrhea can cause water loss and electrolyte imbalance. Drink plenty of fluids especially ORS (oral rehydration solution) to help keep you hydrated.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking and till 4 days after taking this medication. This is because drinking alcohol with Medilop Tablet is likely to make you feel very sick (nauseated) and cause other unpleasant effects, such as hot flushes, headaches, and palpitations (fast heartbeat).
