Mstarin Capsule is best taken with food. This will reduce the risk of nausea and vomiting. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

The most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting, headache, musculoskeletal pain, nosebleed, hyperglycemia, and upper respiratory tract infection. This medicine may reduce the number of blood cells (decrease red blood and white blood cells) in your blood, thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells along with heart, liver, and blood uric acid levels. You have to avoid driving or attention seeking activity if you experience dizziness while taking this medicine.

Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have any other preexisting medical conditions or taking any medicines to treat infections. Many other medicines can affect, or be affected by, this medicine so let your doctor know all medications you are using. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The use of effective contraception by both males and females during treatment is important to avoid pregnancy.

Mstarin Capsules helps treat a type of blood cancer called acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It stops certain enzymes from making the cancer cells grow and multiply. This medicine controls the cancer cell multiplication and improves disease management. It's often used with other treatments like chemotherapy. It is a potent and very toxic medicine and you should discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. You should avoid drinking alcohol while having this treatment and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Mstarin Capsule may decrease alertness, affect your vision, or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.

Kidney

CAUTION

Mstarin Capsule should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.

Liver

Mstarin Capsule is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment is recommended.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Mstarin with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Concurrent use should be avoided. Please consult with your doctor.

Carbamazepine (Oral Route)

Carbamazepine may increase the metabolism of Midostaurin.

Fosphenytoin (Injection Route)

Fosphenytoin may increase the metabolism of Midostaurin.

Phenobarbitone (Oral Route)

Do not consume Midostaurin with Phenobarbitone. Phenobarbitone may reduce blood levels of Midostaurin and its active form.
