Understanding Barium Enema Test
What is Barium Enema Test?
The Barium Enema Double Contrast or DCBE tests focus on checking the condition of the colon. Here, doctors work with X-rays to check for any abnormal growth inside the colon of patients. They apply barium to the outline of the rectum and colon for easier X-ray visuals.
Barium enema tests are not very complex. They do not pose a lot of risk for patients and are not expensive. This test checks for inflammation inside the colon and detects colorectal cancer. Before getting the test, patients need to consume only liquid products for 24 hours straight.
Typically, patients getting this test are not under sedation. However, there is a small risk of colon perforation if the test is done incorrectly.
