Filaria Antibodies Panel, IgG & IgM
Understanding Filaria Antibodies Panel, IgG & IgM
What is Filaria Antibodies Panel, IgG & IgM?
This blood test detects IgG and IgM antibodies that can help identify filariasis and other infections caused by the parasitic worms of the Filaridea family. The immune system creates IgG and IgM antibodies in response to infection; however, a negative result does not necessarily rule out an infection. Other blood tests usually follow a positive result to help identify an infection.
Filariasis is most commonly spread by insects such as mosquitoes and ticks. It typically infects the lymphatic system, which transports waste from the body and helps fight infection. Filariasis may take months to show the symptoms, the most common being thickening and swelling of the skin in the legs. Swelling in other body parts can occur depending on where the infection occurs.
