Sm/RNP Antibody
Understanding Sm/RNP Antibody
What is Sm/RNP Antibody?
Sm/RNP Antibody is a blood test used to detect Anti-Sm RNP antibodies. The presence of these antibodies helps diagnose mixed connective tissue disease in patients who have features of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), scleroderma, and polymyositis.
Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is an autoimmune disorder where a patient experiences symptoms similar to three types of connective tissue disorders: systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyositis, and scleroderma.
An autoimmune disorder is when your body’s immune system attacks its own cells and causes damage. Mixed connective tissue disease symptoms include fever, fatigue, pain in joints, inflammation of joints, and muscle weakness.
The treatment for MCTD usually includes symptomatic relief with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to manage pain and inflammation, along with glucocorticoids to manage disease flare-ups.

- For diagnosis of Lupus Erythematosus
